How flipping works

There is no “rotate” instruction in Unicode. Instead, each letter is swapped for a different character that happens to look like it upside down: a becomes the phonetic letter ɐ, e becomes ǝ, h becomes ɥ, ! becomes the Spanish ¡. Then the order is reversed so the sentence reads right when turned 180°. Capitals are the weak spot: a few, like upside-down G and J, only exist as rare characters, so lower case gives the cleanest result.

Questions players ask

Can I flip numbers?
Yes, using look-alikes: 6 and 9 swap, 7 becomes ㄥ, 4 becomes ㄣ. They look close but not perfect.
What is the difference between flipped and mirrored?
Flipped text is rotated 180° (upside down and backwards). Mirrored text is only reversed left-to-right, like writing seen in a mirror.
How do I turn flipped text back?
Paste it into the box above: flipping twice returns most letters to normal.
