How glitch text is made

Glitch text is ordinary letters followed by combining marks, the Unicode characters normally used for accents like the ones in é or ñ. A font draws each mark on top of or under the letter before it. Stack several on one letter and they pile up into the smeared, corrupted look. The slider controls how many marks each letter gets; see the step-by-step version on the Zalgo text page.

Because every mark is a character, glitch text eats length fast. A 10-letter word at intensity 5 can pass 100 characters, so check the counter before pasting into a name field.

Questions players ask

Why does the glitch text look different after pasting?
Each app draws combining marks with its own font and line height. Some clip marks that rise too high; others spread them over nearby lines.
Can I use glitch text in my Discord name?
Light intensities usually fit the 32-character limit for short names. Discord trims very tall stacks in some views.
What is the difference between glitch and Zalgo text?
Same technique, different dose. “Glitch” usually means a few marks per letter; Zalgo stacks many, above and below, until the text looks cursed.
